Hand Weight Sets

When purchasing a hand weight sets there are certain factors that one must take into consideration. Such three factors include durability, portability, and price. Hand weights can be very inexpensive but only account for smaller weights and range into pricy sets with the highest made quality metals with greater customizable weight amounts.
For a home gym, the best choices for hand weight sets can either be a fixed hexagonal dumbbells, a classic spin-lock dumbbells, or a modern easily-adjustable one. A fixed hexagonal set is the one people more commonly use, but the only disadvantage is due to the amount of space it takes up since such set can cover a wide range of weights. A spin-lock dumbbells are usually used through circuit training workouts that requires repeated weight changes. Loading and unloading can be a slow process, but that alone can easily be part of the work out itself. Lastly, modern adjustable dumbbells are the easiest to change and can be done in less than 30 seconds. This set saves the most space is the most convenient, but then again these are usually the most expensive and more fragile. The price for these modern hand weight sets can easily range from a $100 to $500.
When choosing adjustable hand weight sets there certain considerations that must take place. Quick change hand weight sets have certain limitations on weight that can be added. Depending on the model, theĀ maximum weight can either be 25, 50, or 100 pounds. There can also be some confusion when choosing the weights since some manufacturers state the combined weight on the box, and others one by one. Most importantly, such dumbells are sold one by one and not in pairs. So if possible, it would be a lot better to choose hand weight sets. Weight increments must also be considered, smaller hand weight sets only have increments of 2.5 while their larger counterparts can have 5 or 10 pound increments. Other things to take notice of are listed for hand weight sets:
- Do the plates jam and need to be shaken up?
- Do they rattle and make unnecessary sounds?
- Are the plates secure and in place? Are there any safety concerns that need to be paid attention to? (ie. dangerous sharp corners, anything sticking out)
- Are the hand weight sets evenly balanced?
- Are you able to use a dumbbell using two hands? (This is necessary for some workout routines)
There are even certain adjustable hand weight sets with dial controls, which are the easiest to use. You can simple rotate the dial to choose the necessary weight you want to work with and internal mechanism unlocks this specific weight. Of course there is one disadvantage for using this type of set. Considering this is a very complex mechanism, it can also be be fragile, so owning such specific hand weight sets must be taken care of.
Another type is a selector-pin system. This is where you use pin rods to choose and hold the plates. This rod is pushed through specific holes to pick out a weight. The advantage for this type of system allows for ease of use, and it does not take time to pick out a different weight. The only disadvantages are the need to sometimes jiggle the plates as they tend to stick together and the possibility of misalignment through insertion.
These type of different hand weight sets are relatively easy to use. Whatever your preference may be, you may be able to take into consideration the factors mentioned. These different type of hand weight sets are great for hand exercises and will help you maintain your upper body muscles.
